Assault And Battery is the fifth album from The Kevins, allegedly released in 2004.

Usually it's a crime when bands take on cover tunes. And The Kevins tackled some big-time covers. So now they stand before the court, ready to face the music.

When The Kevins get stumped on writing originals but still want to rock, they turn on the wayback machine and piledrive through some oldies - especially their fave 45s from the blissful teen years.

Often the random covers have found a home on regular albums, but usually they are one-off escapades. Finally it was decided to gather up the best of the bunch into an album.

The band routinely shies away from merely copying somebody's hit tune - The Kevins like to put their stamp on all they do. So on Assault and Battery you're going to find a song from electro-New Wavers Devo done in a hushed acoustic-chamber style, and a funky jazz-rock tune from Steely Dan getting the hammering punk treatment.

A Led Zeppelin screamer goes rockabilly (maybe not so much of a stretch), a Joe Walsh/James Gang power-trio tune finds a disco beat, and a Black Sabbath song relaxes into a sweet leaf reggae groove - you get the picture.
