Out of the blue I heard that Peggy Sue
Had blown out her brains in a drainage ditch
She used her dad's gun and erased the sun
Just turned twenty-one but couldn't take anymore

She paid her dues going to nursing school
Peggy always wanted to help folks out
But she was on her own, couldn't phone home

I remember the night she drove into a parked car
Looking for my house with a carload of girls
Two years together then we drifted apart
Hadn’t heard from her in months when I got the call

Distress signals she sent friends didn't comprehend
The vultures cleaned out Peggy's house the day she died
She took her Dad's gun and chased her demons down
Did she catch up with them?
I guess we'll never know
