about

I'm pretty sure I first heard this most excellent Andy Bergey composition on his archival collection Andythology. Where Should I Fall socked me right between the eyes - a well-turned lyric about a young person's despondency and a sparse, keyboard-driven sound combined to create a pitch-perfect soundtrack of dead-end despair. I just had to take a crack at ruining it!

Andy is an eccentric songsmith whose sense of rhythm and time definitely marches to its own beat. This was an instance where I tried my best to copy the original song and not put a Kevins spin on the thing.

Was it a successful cover? You be the judge. Mr. Bergey called Where Should I Fall "probably the best song on the (Andythology) cd." Find the original recording here at the A. Bergey web site (scroll down to track fourteen):

lyrics

WHERE SHOULD I FALL by A. Bergey

The undisputed truth
Came tumbling down
Caught on stone cold lies
Buried me in the ground
Unmitigated love
I testified
A panel of fears
Sat before me and lied

Find me standing on the edge
With a double-sided ledge
On one side lies the truth
On the other is my youth
Keep me looking straight ahead
Don’t think where my life’s led
You can tell me don’t look down
I will when you’re not around

Where should I fall
If I should fall at all
A decision to make
For decision's sake
Where should I fall

If you were my Daddy
You’d hold me down
If you were my momma
You’d talk me down
Where should I fall
