This Cry's On Me (free) 02:42
I'll rent you a shoulder Buy a handkerchief I’ll hail a taxi If you need a lift This cry's on me This cry's on me The sky's the limit But let me dim it This cry's on me I'll buy you some eye drops Let me lend a hand You don't have to thank me 'Cause I understand This cry's on me This cry's on me The sky's the limit But let me dim it This cry's on me Everything costs And so does a good cry Everything's lost So I think you should try This cry's on me...

We Live (free) 03:14
We live in that house The one you're making fun of So don't be surprised If you find it full of love We ride in that car The one you won't be seen in We park it safely In a garage that's leaning It's the most damnable thing That leads to no argument To be poor yet win the crown Life's richest tournament She goes to a school The one your kid won't attend Yet we'd do the same That I can’t defend It's the most damnable thing That leads to no argument To be poor yet win the crown Life's richest tournament You're too honest for honesty Honestly We live in that house The one you're making fun of So don't be surprised If you find it full of love It's the most damnable thing That leads to no argument To be poor yet win the crown Life's richest tournament So don't be surprised...

I remember watching Vietnam On a black and white tv set Now I don't dream in color Goodnight David, goodnight Chet I was nixed by Nixon and kissed by Kissinger Got my daily body count Don't kill the messenger I remember watching George McGovern On a new color tv set My dreams turned to monochrome Goodnight David, goodnight Chet Heard a man on the tv say our culture's sinking low We're in a deep dark valley The land of the six-pack Joe Now I'm watchin' Fox and The Daily Show On my hd tv set I lose my balance on the stairs Goodnight David, goodnight Chet I remember watching Vietnam On a black and white tv set Now I don't dream in color Goodnight David, goodnight Chet Goodnight David, goodnight Chet

Movin' East (free) 03:07
Sixty thousand cars see this sign every day A cross big enough to scare Jesus away Nothing but trucks in the used car lot Another reminder of what I ain't got Changed the letters on my truck to DORF Seasonal ducks dressed up on the porch Don't buy your gas on a Tuesday morning Or run your band saw when I am snoring I'm movin' east One county to the right I'll do the once over Skip out in the middle of the night I'm movin' east One county to the right Bought a house and never bothered To see it in the daylight Got my garage sale list, two rolls of quarters Move dirt today got my marching orders Take the kids to the smaller of two malls Can't see a thing for these retaining walls Sixty thousand cars see this sign every day A cross big enough to scare Jesus away Nothing but trucks in the used car lot Another reminder of what I ain't got I'm movin' east One county to the right I'll do the once over Skip out in the middle of the night I'm movin' east One county to the right Bought a house and never bothered To see it in the daylight

Head, Hand Or Heart (free) 02:48
The thought you had That made you glad Made you want to toy With another boy Was not the choice That I’d rejoice But you have your way It wasn’t my day Was it in your head In your hand Or in your heart Was it in your head In your hand Or in your heart The gap you filled Was fine until Another hole occurred Where you were assured Everything was set The mix was wet And you had your say Till he went away Stop me before I start And please let go my heart I’m sure to give a hand But my head’s in your sand Was it in your head In your hand Or in your heart Was it in your head In your hand Or in your heart

Curb Your Love (free) 02:49
Got love struck by the love truck No witnesses They didn't see Got love struck by the love truck No witnesses Except for me Walking down the street I came to a sign that said Curb your love Or you'll get a fine 'Cause, ooh what a mess a bad love can make A shovel and a bag you'd better take Got love pain from a love plane No witnesses They didn't care Got love pain from a love plane No witnesses They wouldn't dare Walking down the street I came to a sign that said Curb your love Or you'll get a fine 'Cause, ooh what a mess a bad love can make A shovel and a bag you'd better take

Ditto For Me (free) 02:50
Well he talks about you In uncompromising terms Like you're so perfect Totally lacking in germs Someday you'll be mine So I'm playing it straight He knows that you're good But I know that you're great Well he loves you it's plain to see Yes he loves you, ditto for me You were mine at first You'll be mine at last And all he will be Is something in your past Look at your new man What do you see? The way he treats you Cannot compare to me Well he loves you that's plain to see Yes he loves you, ditto for me Now you're married I planned this all wrong You're his forever I've waited too long Baby I blew it Don't know what to say Yeah you're great but... Didn't want you anyway Well he loves you it's plain to see Now he's got you, nothing for me Well he loves you, it's plain to see Yes he loves you, ditto for me

My Hands (free) 03:49
As I sit and look at my hands I see what my hands have done There are no feelings in my hands I see that my hands have none They've spanked and thanked with the same hand They've knived and jived with the same man They've slapped and clapped with the same band It's these hands that hold me back As I sit and look at my hands I see what my hands have done There are no feelings in my hands I see that my hands have none They've stabbed and jabbed at the same time They've tipped and sipped the table wine They've punched and lunched a simple mind It's these hands that hold me back Do I really have hands that are under control? Do I really have hands without a mind or soul? As I sit and look at my hands I see what my hands have done There are no feelings in my hands I see that my hands have none They've spanked and thanked with the same hand They've knived and jived with the same man They've slapped and clapped with the same band They've stabbed and jabbed at the same time They've tipped and sipped the table wine They've punched and lunched a simple mind It's these hands that hold me back It's these hands that hold me back

about

The Kevins present a collection of songs from the mind of Andrew Bergey. Viable Tangents corrals a wide variety of unique Bergey material, from his mid-eighties emergence in Rank Amateurs to songs constructed in 2013.

I was the other half of Rank Amateurs, and I've known Andrew for many years. It's been my distinct pleasure to have contributed to both the earliest and newest songs.

Four tunes - This Cry's On Me, My Hands, Ditto For Me and Curb Your Love - date from the four-track cassette adventures of Rank Amateurs (1985-1988). I've been playing some Rank songs for nearly three decades; they have stuck with me like old friends.

Andy often goes years between releases, but his songs have a timeless quality - they never feel dated. Head, Hands Or Heart first appeared in 2003 on the compilation Andythology, while We Live is a splendid tune from 2013's You Should Have Been There.

Movin' East and Goodnight David, Goodnight Chet arrived via a 2013 collaboration between AB and myself. Like the old days, Andy sent acappella snippets and full lyrics. I would scan his stanzas while messing around with my own music. To my delight, these two songs fell together easily, AB's words meshing nicely with new music. Andrew, thanks again for letting me dress your kids funny.

The Kevins have regularly featured Bergey tunes on their albums: The Nearly Quiet Orb, Today I'm Buying, Breaking And Entering, Leaving Nothing But Sorrow are some of the more recent renditions. That's because Andrew Bergey is our favorite group!

Mr. Bergey, this was a labor of love. Thanks for the years of great songs!

The Kevins Arvada, Colorado

The Kevins (Denver, CO) have been conjuring up home-made rock music since 1998: original songs by K. Dennis, tunes by friends & colleagues, and covers (Steppenwolf, Blondie, The Delfonics, Husker Du, The Banana Splits, more). Inspired by Neil Young, John Fogerty, Paul Westerberg, Ian Hunter and many more, The Kevins' continuing quest is to create the perfect single - or at least some cool b-sides. ... more
